About SkillStart Primary
SkillStart Primary was created by a primary PE specialist who spent years watching the same problem play out in staffrooms: class teachers who care deeply about their children but were handed PE with no training, no plans and a cupboard of mismatched equipment. The result was too often a lesson of vague games — through no fault of the teacher.
The scheme grew out of plans written for real classes in real halls and on real playgrounds, refined term after term until any colleague could pick them up and teach them well. That remains the test for everything we publish: could a non-specialist deliver this on a wet Tuesday afternoon, and would the children genuinely get better at something?
Our mission
Every child deserves PE that actually teaches them something — where skills are built deliberately from Year 1 to Year 6, and where PE is a subject with progression and standards, not just supervised activity. Our job is to make that achievable for every primary school, whoever is on the timetable.
Why schools choose us
- Written by a primary PE specialist, for non-specialist class teachers
- Genuine year-on-year progression, mapped across every strand
- Every lesson fully planned — nothing left for staff to invent at 8.45am
- Assessment that takes minutes, not evenings
- One straightforward whole-school licence, invoiced like any other school supplier
